COURSE DESCRIPTION
Gifted to Serve is a 10-week course designed for believers whose heart is to serve God and others by discovering and sharpening, their God-given giftings in order to serve the Lord and other people more effectively through the power of the Holy Spirit. Although every believer -- male or female, rich or poor, young or old -- can benefit greatly from this course, those who have fresh insights from the survey course: The Spirit, The Bible and Women, will benefit most because that course emphasizes gift-defined living rather than gender-defined roles in both ministry and marriage.
This study is designed to help us fulfill Jesus’ words “to love our neighbors as ourselves” through being informed, passionate, productive, Spirit-led members of the Body of Christ. The main biblical text for this study will be Romans 12, where Paul lists 7 "motivational" gifts. Also Included in the course is a brief study of the spiritual and ministry gifts in the New Testament. Each student will have opportunity to do personal evaluation of their personality, gifts, and abilities, and with this insight will better understand how to serve the Lord and how to get along better with others.
The teacher appreciates the uniqueness of each individual and is aware that people cannot be put in neat little boxes. Nevertheless, over the years of Spirit-led life, study and ministry leadership, she has learned that informed believers can live ever-increasingly peaceful and fulfilling lives through Holy Spirit insights from Scripture.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Linda Miller is a licensed minister, Christian counselor and educator, Bible teacher, short-term missionary, and author. She is enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry Program at ORU, where she previously earned both Master of Divinity and Master of Christian Education degrees. She also has undergraduate degrees in nursing from Long Island, New York, and she graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, OK. She has also received extensive post-graduate training in Clinical Pastoral Education. Her pastoral care theory paper on Bereavement Care in Pre-Natal and Perinatal Loss won the Antoin Boisen Award. Linda serves as Adjunct Professor at Oral Roberts University Graduate School of Theology and Missions.
She loves to help believers recognize and use their God-given gifts to glorify God in these last days. Over the years, by following the Holy Spirit’s leading in her own life, she has extended caring and healing to many. She founded and directed a successful service pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Tulsa, as well as an accredited Bible Institute on Long Island, NY. She recently retired from fruitful chaplaincy at the Cancer Treatment Center in Tulsa. She serves as a Spirit-led, Word-oriented prayer partner and advisor to various ministries and friends. She believes each Christian’s calling is to know Jesus Christ and to serve Him wholeheartedly. The Apostle Paul called Himself a “bondservant of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Linda’s life desire is to reflect this attitude of service and devotion to Christ.
She is currently writing a book entitled Healing from Abortion that has grown out of her mother’s heart for hurting women. Although this is a global disaster, Linda became deeply aware of it in Bulgaria, where abortion is the birth control method of choice.
She and her husband, Conrad, make their home in Tulsa. They are parents of four grown children and grandparents of eight.
